The cosmetology program at Upper Valley Career Center received the most heart-warming surprise on Friday afternoon. Virginia Shafer, who was featured in this story on February 13, 2017, as the longest-standing client of the salon, walked back through the doors at the age of 100.
Mrs. Shafer celebrated her centenarian milestone on July 1, 2023 and was overjoyed that she could return again this school year to see the staff and students. While some things have changed, and she no longer makes the weekly drive to the salon herself, she said she will come back as often as she is able. The students were thrilled to be able to serve Mrs. Shafer and carry on such a wonderful tradition.
